The hummingbird hawk-moth (Macroglossum stellatarum) flies from flower to flower, flapping its wings at a rate of about 70 to 90 beats per second. This high frequency enables its characteristic hovering flight, during which it can hover motionless in front of a flower—much like a hummingbird—while sipping nectar with its proboscis, which can be up to 3 cm long.#myphoto
The “Russian Bear,” also known as the “Spanish Flag” (Euplagia quadripunctaria), was named Butterfly of the Year in Germany in 2025. This moth can be seen visiting flowers in the sunshine, much like a butterfly. #myphoto
The Emperor Moth (Kaisermantel; Argynnis paphia) was the Butterfly of the Year for 2022 in Germany. Its Latin name is inspired by Aphrodite, the goddess of love. And Emperor Moths are truly the beauties of the forest. They are frequently found there.#myphoto
