figured I'd at least look over NordVPN's offering since they're probably the biggest-name VPN I know of
the monthly price of their basic, *VPN-only* tier is $14.99, pricier than a full Proton Unlimited sub. to be fair tho, the 1-year or 2-year plan significantly lowers that price, but it's much more upfront
I also looked at Private Internet Access, as I used them before Proton. lower prices than Nord overall, and...no controversies, i think?
@macberg Interesting, there aren't student loans in Austria, at least back then when I was at uni. Parents usually pay for rent etc. or you work part time. Basically these two scenarios 🤔

Handsome Brook Farms, an organic pasture-raised egg producer in Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky, just finished 9 ground-mounted solar projects totaling 579.7 kW across its farms. One farmer saw a 74.23% drop in his annual electric bill with 100% uptime since day one.
The ground-mounted panels pull double duty: clean power on top, shade for the hens below. The chickens roam between the arrays and the barn, staying cooler during intense summer heat.
The economics are real too. With federal tax credits, accelerated depreciation, and a USDA REAP grant, the payback is about 3 years. After that, power is basically free for the 25-year warranty period.
It offsets about 668 metric tons of CO2 annually. Not bad for a bunch of chickens and some panels.
Yeah we'll have to see, I have another Pi 400 running as my Jellyfin server and a couple other tiny, low-end services. (That one I opened up and stuffed an SSD inside)
@yapka Oh, Inkwell! Yes, that’s our new RSS reader that essentially syncs feeds with the Micro.blog platform and uses the same sign-in. It integrates replies to posts too where possible. I’m sure there will be more features shared between Micro.blog and Inkwell in the future.

The all-hands event is done. Some minor glitches, but considering there was zero opportunity given for a dry-run, I think it turned out okay. i've discovered that the Steam Machine CPU is actually 25-30% faster than my desktop's in single core performance, and very close in multi core despite my desktop having more cores & threads (Ryzen 7 5700X).
this is with the caveat of running my CPU in Eco Mode, so it's limited to, i think, 48W TDP...but then, that's versus the Machine's mere 30W TDP
