@justbob heh. yeah AI consistently polls negatively across all sorts of spaces and industries. It may be more 50/50 in very commercial/mainstream arenas, but in no way can it be claimed that pro-AI is a majority position (other than among the suits, lol).
@heiglandreas not having to maintain my own thing, they have glitch-soc mastodon which has more features
Though I have just moved my instance to glitch which was easy thanks to @pieceofthepie's Dokku project using linuxserver.io docker images and they already have a glitch tagged version and moving between them is as simple as changing the Dockerfile
I do not understand why elecreg.co.uk is not a gov.uk site, I really don't. Literally anybody could set up a site called ukelectoralregistrationsLOL.co.uk or whatever and send plausible-looking email about it.
Yes, elecreg.co.uk is, at time of writing, legit. I was just as annoyed by this last time around. Here's a page on birmingham.gov.uk which links to it.
Aaaaaaarrrrrgrghghhhgh. Birmingham City Council, no!
An email saying "go here to register yourself for the electoral roll", with a link which is to some random website (elecreg.co.uk).
A line in the email saying "If you want to check that it is authentic, then you can visit the council’s website at https://www.birmingham.gov.uk/ecanvass", which is good! Actual official council webpage! well done!
And the web page in question. Which DOES NOT MENTION THE SUSPECT LINK. So I am not, at all, reassured!
Aaaarrghhh!
@atog @neatnik Ah gotcha I thought you’d misunderstood my point 😅
I prefer to do it myself and I think I do a good job, because context is important and I don’t know if AI does that well or not. Having said that I think AI generated is better alt text than none but I could be wrong.
@atog Honestly I have no idea - I don’t really use alt text so I don’t know how good ai generated ones are. I was more commenting on the lack of alt text on our instance
@richards Absolutely. It's something I just don't understand to be honest. Journalists should be calling this stuff out, but investors just keep throwing money at him. I'm not a big fan of Bezos, but I can get a bag of cat food or a charging cable for my phone in a matter of hours without ever leaving my house. He's an asshole, but his stuff actually works. Musk has more money, but he can't say the same.
@tokenizer If I were to guess, I'd say that the chances of the US going bankrupt is actually higher with AI and robots. 1000% without AI and robots, 10000% with them.
@diazona @AgentOrange96 I'm intentionally not trying to lay out a series of pedantic rules…
Here's a previous response which might clarify: https://indieweb.social/@jaredwhite/116993388938146986
Also it doesn't have to apply to *everything* you might do now or in the future, just that you can point to a tangible software project(s) being used "in production" which can be credibly claimed was hand-coded that you stand by.
