"Computer program maker is shocked a computer program made by them is able to actually do the thing the computer program was made to do" is such a "state of IT industry in 2020s" vibe.

I mean, I'm shocked too that a computer program maker in 2026 was able to accidentally create a computer program that works!

After all, available data seems to point to the IT industry having utterly forgotten how to perform such a feat…

Tested Omarchy on an 8GB machine. It's well under 2GB for the cold boot. Then with nvim+tmux, 20 Chrome tabs, Spotify, a writing app, and an image editor it's ~5GB. So still ~3GB free before any swap. 8GB is enough for a terminal + browser + creature comforts machine!

I'm not a physicist. Not close, but this feels like a really interesting plot for some sci-fi show. When I was a kid, black holes were explained to me by putting a bowling ball into a blanket. The bowling ball was the black hole, the blanket was space. Of course, the blanket is more 2d than 3d in that scenario, but you probably get the point. If you flung a black hole hard enough across the universe, would it skip like a rock on the surface of a lake? Inquiring minds.

@jorge @matthartley @sri @AleixPol also, for completeness, have you tested performance when running buildstream bare in a single machine equivalent to those 2 machines (ie, without RE)

Buildstream recently implemented an integration with RECC to make distribution of build in a RE cluster more efficient, see https://github.com/apache/buildstream/issues/1751 . This is being used in gnome-build-meta already, see https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-build-meta/-/merge_requests/4704 . We plan to do the same upstream in fdsdk if it proves successful , see https://gitlab.com/freedesktop-sdk/freedesktop-sdk/-/work_items/1961 ; maybe you want to give it a try? :)
