When Dreams About AI Become Reality

Nu văd niciun fișier atașat - directorul e gol. Dar am textul articolului direct în mesajul tău, așa că îl traduc:

When we were children, teenagers, or even adults - and before artificial intelligence became publicly available - whenever we watched a sci-fi movie or a clip about robots and automation, at least 90% of the world's population probably wondered, or at least thought about, how great it would be if robots and artificial intelligence existed to do many things in our place, so we could just relax. Go on vacations, on trips, and we daydreamed about how wonderful that would be.

Now that robots and artificial intelligence actually exist, and both keep improving day by day, many of those who just a few years ago were daydreaming about strolling along the seaside while a robot with artificial intelligence handled everything back home...

Dreams are beautiful until reality catches up with them, and people no longer want those dreams to come true. If you don't want a dream to become reality, stop dreaming about it - simply ignore it.

Now people are shouting at the top of their lungs online and elsewhere that AI is stealing people's jobs, and they no longer think about that beautiful dream by the sea or wherever else they used to picture themselves in their fantasies.

These kinds of problems have come up before throughout history, and we, as humans, are still here and still have jobs. Think about when industrialization happened, or when factories brought in robots to replace workers, or when cars appeared, and many other developments since then. There were periods when people complained that their jobs were being stolen, that there was nothing left to work on, and so on.

I'm not saying everyone found work during those periods - surely there were some who were left stranded and had a rough time. But most found a new job and humanity moved forward. Some jobs disappeared, but new ones emerged to take their place.

The problem is that people need to learn something new, and nowadays laziness is a powerful force. How is someone supposed to learn something new when they're already good at pulling nails out of wood and don't feel like learning how to hammer them back in - that's roughly the situation with AI too.

And we're still a ways off from the world we see in movies - not far, but not there yet. In the meantime, we can learn new skills.
