p.s. Don't use DMs to send sensitive information, as they aren't end-to-end encrypted.
There's nothing in Mastodon's software which shows DMs to admins, but an admin with enough technical knowledge could view your server's database directly without the software and see DMs. I've never heard of this actually happening, but it's possible so that's why it's best to avoid sensitive info.
And I learned: these hearing aids don’t have a real time clock, they have a timer that counts active use hours. The trial period is simply a value of „free“ hours. So my dad‘s devices showed -5 hours when we arrived and now has 280 hours. The reason they do this is to avoid that people claim to have „lost“ temporary replacements while in reality they are sold on eBay etc. once they get their repaired ones back. Yep. That happens.
Ah okay! 🙂 Do you want to hide all replies from your timeline?
If you're using the website interface, go to your main timeline ("Home") and then click the arrows icon in the top right corner. One of the options is "show replies", toggle this off. Apps vary on whether they allow this or not, it's usually in the settings if they have this option.
By the way, you only see replies if they are between two people you follow.
About the GIF, I am not sure what is preventing it working for you. I just tested it with autoplay switched on with Firefox and the Web UI, and it played them automatically.
One possibility is this is some kind of bug on older versions of Mastodon, your server is still on 4.5.13 and the latest version is 4.6.4.
About the blurred or missing images and videos, this may be because they are older posts and your server no longer has their media attachment in its cache.
Posts are retained so they can be searched and browsed, but attachments don't affect searches/browsing so they may be deleted from the cache after a certain period to save server space. However, they do re-fetch the attachment if needed so this might be why you're seeing a picture be blurry at first and then visible.
The hashtag shows you all public posts that your server has noticed which contain that tag. So, it's not actively pulling in posts from other servers, it's just sorting through the public posts that have arrived on your server anyway.
The posts a server notices come from many different sources, I've tried to do a list of them all at https://fedi.tips/which-posts-and-accounts-can-i-see-from-my-server
Groups do things differently, they actively pull in everything that mentions the group.
@jonty
@stml on a car camping/festival tent yes. I think it would be hard to use them on a backpacking tent while keeping the weight down, especially if you need the result to be strong enough to deal with high winds. I'm also thinking that you'd have the door panel overlapping the body of the tent and then a second flap on the body overlapping the door, so the unzipped edge isn't exposed to the wind. You could use magnets to hold it in place once it was close, but you'd still need the bungee to get it to the general vicinity.
By reaction I assume you mean reply? (Just asking as some people use reaction to mean likes etc)
If you're wanting to hide particular replies, you can use Mastodon's Filters feature to hide posts and replies with certain words, phrases, tags or links (more info: https://fedi.tips/filtering-your-timeline-to-hide-posts-on-mastodon ).
If you want to hide your reply from everyone but the person you're replying to, you can set the reply's visibility to "mentions only" (aka "private mention"), more info at https://fedi.tips/who-can-see-my-posts-in-mastodon-how-do-i-send-dms-in-mastodon
To DM:
1. Start writing a new post
2. Mention the account or accounts you want to send it to
3. Change the post's visibility setting to "Mentions only" (also called "Private mentions" or "DM" on some apps)
4. Post it
Mentions-visibility posts just go to the accounts mentioned in them. More info about visibilities at https://fedi.tips/who-can-see-my-posts-in-mastodon-how-do-i-send-dms-in-mastodon/
And we found a friendly store in Detmold, Baschlebe, that fixed the problem and now my dad can hear again without the nagging melody every 3 minutes! My sincere thanks to all that helped us getting this solved. This is the Fediverse we all love!
🚨Make your voices heard & #KILLTHECOOKIEBANNER. 🍪😡
The European Commission wants to remove the ANNOYING COOKIE BANNER that you have to deal with, but Google is lobbying against this. Now, EU Member States like Germany & France want to keep it.
It is time for the European Parliament to advocate to keep their proposal (Article 88b) and remove the cookie banner, because its people that are directly impacted by this.
