Hey fediverse, happy Friday! Hope you're all hanging in there.
Tomorrow is the first day of Blaugust, an annual community challenge to blog every day. Yeah, that might truly be a challenge for most people, but the real goal is to help build a community and inspire each other.
"Posting regularly builds a community and in this era of AI-slop content, our voices are needed even more than we ever have been at any point in the past."
quick PSA: If there's an insect buzzing in front of your forehead in the kitchen, don't just assume it's a moth and instinctively grab it.
It might actually be a wasp that's not happy about being grabbed and will sting your hand :)
(Wasp is ok and has been gently relocated to the outside with it's friend. My hand stings a bit, but I applied one of those heat sticks immediately, so apparently headed off the worst.)
Here's to the system administrators who keep systems running, networks secure, and save us from our #tech troubles. Your work may happen behind the scenes, but its impact is felt every day. 💪👨💻🏆
Thank you to all SysAdmins for everything you do! (Mention your favourite SysAdmin to show your appreciation!)
Reuters says that three months after the Australian ban, “8 in 10” teenagers are still using social media. It’s still very early, so I don’t think we need to read too much into it yet. There has been a shift:
"Children’s continued social media use took place even as account ownership declined to 42% from 52%, with “statistically significant” reductions across YouTube, Snapchat and TikTok in particular, the report said."
Kinda funny how the @EUCommission published opinion from 2026-06-02 that, while written in a friendly way, makes it very clear that Germany and 8 other countries should really get rid of their internal border controls now that so many measures have been taken, has gone mostly unnoticed by German media.

CoMaps has been featured in the "Open Source Spotlight" newsletter of the German @ct_Magazin!
In addition to exploring the app, they also spoke with our contributor @gedankenstuecke about the history of the project, how we work, and what's next.
If you're not a newsletter subscriber, you can read it here: https://infoservice.heise.de/ct-opensource_vorschau.jsp
@cryptoduke @Linux @jolla Mostly open source. AppSupport and lipstick (home screen / UI) aren't. AppSupport is a revenue generator for Jolla and lipstick due to commercial usage as well.
They've been open sourcing more over time at https://github.com/sailfishos
@WiredDifferently @ridwan For whatever it’s worth, I’m currently eating my own dog food and using Micro.blog private notes for everything. That way I can just copy/paste from within the Mac app. Before that, used Ulysses extensively for notes and drafts.
