If you like malware reverse engineering, this was being served by Adform a few days ago: https://pastebin.com/mc7psaNF

@madduci it doesn't matter what they run on, because energy is a fungible resource. As in, energy used by the datacenters will not be used by other users. Even if the datacenters run 100% on solar and wind, that's green energy that somebody else will not have access to and so will have to use coal.

"AI" is keeping coal plants alive:

RSS reader Current has been updated with Feedly support. Nice blog post about how this came about. It’s always interesting to hear the behind-the-scenes stories like this.

@emilion @tanavit @glipari @hyde the thread you are responding in started with:

> Meanwhile, France and Spain are literally on fire because of climate change. 🔥

You yourself used the example of China's emissions in your first response in this thread. How is this a different topic then?

Puu OS builds at least on top of the following open source projects:

@emilion @tanavit @hyde look, you will not get me worried about the "AI brain drain". If we were talking about green energy scientists brain drain, or medical staff brain drain, that would be a serious concern. But "AI brain drain"? Meh, whatever, let them chase the global hype.

@tanavit @emilion @hyde this 💯

The waste of resources related to developers not giving a fsck about performance because "it works on their machine" (with 64GiB of RAM and over9000 cores) is absolutely ridiculous.

@emilion @hyde can you define "AI" please? Because you keep using this term and I would like to understand what exactly you are talking about if it's not the frontier models that underpin popular generative tools.

From what I've seen "AI" can mean anything from a humongous LLM all the way to some piece of code that runs on a toothbrush (look it up, there are toothbrushes "powered by AI" now), so I'd like to know what exactly you're talking about here.

@emilion @hyde the funny thing, of course, is that EU has the tools to do some of this (like regaining control over data etc), but refuses to effectively use them.

These would include regulation that requires open standards whenever a public tender is involved, and requiring open sourcing stuff that was funded in any way with EU money.

But no, we have to build datacenters (that then will host services that can't work without US Big Tech anyway). 🤡
