A couple of weeks ago, I ran into a discussion in Mastodon about whether seeking growth for your projects is a good move or "a wacky, fediverse-only take".
I think it's a perfectly valid strategy for open source, hobby or commercial projects. Not everything needs to seek growth: often the right thing to do is to build things to serve a small group of users — even if that is just one person.
if you're booking a taxi from a venue which is a reasonable distance from your house (30 miles or so) back to your house, late at night (and you're booking this some days in advance, not on the night), do you ring a taxi company from the town where you live, or the town where the venue is? I don't do this sort of thing much.
Big Tech won't stop collecting MORE of our BIOMETRIC DATA 😡
Meta, the company behind Facebook, just announced new "Facebook verified" badges. To get the badge, you have to record a short video selfie, which Meta will then check against your existing profile photos to confirm it matches.
This is just another excuse to collect more of our data 😤

I began with photography in 1997. Seeing the opportunity for a good shot is something that after all this years mostly runs automatically. I'm grateful for this.
@deshipu Ya, this was the second article about Musk that I read in a row, and that probably push my tolerances. The other was how he promised to have half the country covered my self driving robotaxies by mid 2025. The man lies and makes promises he can't keep and then just lies again. He's not hoping to find a pearl. He's claiming he's already found it and trying to pay for dinner with it.
Sweden, once a pioneering champion of everything digital, is taking a second look at that strategy.
- Not just cashless: There should be a general obligation for merchants to accept cash for purchases of essential goods. [1]
- Sweden's government is championing a renewed focus on physical books, paper and pens in classrooms, designed to reverse falling literacy levels. [2]

It is a shot with the mobile phone. We were there for hours, it was raining all the time. I shot this one seconds before leaving. It prooves that you don't need equipment, just luck to get the right moment. 😅
#Musk: "We are 1,000% going to go bankrupt as a country and fail as a country, without AI and robots."
This is the shit that annoys me. We NEED AI and robots or we're doomed! Coincidentally, #Elon sells #AI and robots. I don't think AI is evil and should be avoided at all costs. I think it has its uses if handled properly, but I also think #ElonMusk is full of shit and just trying to add even more money to his coffers. He'll say what he thinks needs to be said to do it.
